Robyn Watts is a graduate of the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Denver, CO. She received her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology in December of 1998. She is a nationally certified veterinary technician and also holds state certifications in MD, NV and PA. She has a long career in the veterinary specialty field. She held the head surgical technician position for 8 years at Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists in Maryland. She then continued her career at the University of Pennsylvania’s Matthew J. Ryan Small Animal Hospital where she specialized in small animal anesthesia. She has also done volunteer work with Pets on Wheels and VetPets Therapy Associations. In her free time, she enjoys rock climbing and surfing. When she can, her dog Ember goes along with her to camp, paddle board, and kayak.
A Houston native, Tiffany graduated from Alief Hastings HS in 2007, and attended Houston Community College for 2 years. She then transferred to Veterinary Technician Institute and earned her AAS in Veterinary Technology in 2011. She became a registered vet tech later that year. She worked as an ICU/Emergency Technician in Houston and in Kailua, Oahu, where she and her husband came to love the area’s recreation and culture. Wanting to move to a higher level in veterinary medicine, they returned to Houston in July 2013, and Tiffany joined our SLVS family. They live in Richmond with their love-able “old lady” Cristina, a 10-year boxer.
Amy graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in biomedical science, and obtained her AAS in veterinary technology from Kirkwood Community College in Iowa. She completed a year-long internship at Animal Medical Center of NYC, and joined their staff afterwards to coordinate their OR surgical suites. In 2010, she came home to Texas and joined the SLVS family. Her special interest is orthopedic and minimally-invasive surgery. In her spare time she trains for triathlons, spends time outdoors, attends Aggie games, and relaxes with Martia the Martian, her cat.
Carmen has been in the veterinary field since 2007. She started out as a kennel tech in private practice and then worked her way up to veterinary technician after high school. Carmen graduated from VTI of Houston in 2011 and has worked in research at Texas A&M’s Institute for Preclinical Studies, Texas A&M’s Small Animal ICU, and at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialist Internal Medicine department as a Procedure Technician for almost 2 years before joining the team at SLVS in the Surgery Section. She finally achieved her LVT status in August 2015, and now wants to specialize in small animal Anesthesia and get a VTS in anesthesia. She spends her free time with her two horses, three dogs, two iguanas and her cat.
Kristen is from Richmond, TX and joined the SLVS Surgery Section in October 2014. She attended Texas A&M University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Leadership and Development, as well as obtaining her Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology at the Vet Tech Institute of Houston in 2013. She has a mixed breed dog named Ruby, a cat named Jax, and 10 horses. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, being outdoors and being involved in competitions with her horses.
Prudence received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Vet Tech Institute Houston in August 2014. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rice University. Prudence joined SLVS as a surgery technician in 2014. In her spare time, Prudence enjoys dancing and spending time with her husband and their houseful of pets: Peaches the cat, Jeeves the red-eared slider, Toby the dog, Gherkin the American bullfrog, Eleanor and Cassandra the rats, Hank the bearded dragon; and last but not least, Frankie the budgie.
Originally from the UK, Catherine is a registered Veterinary Nurse, graduating in 2005. Having started out in a first opinion veterinary clinic she developed a passion for surgical nursing. Pursuing this, she spent two years working at Fitzpatrick Referrals in Surrey, UK. This specialist orthopaedic and neurology hospital is featured on the television series 'The Bionic Vet'. She then lived and worked in Bergen, Norway for five years - At PetVett Bergen she was the lead surgical nurse. In 2012 she gained her Diploma in Advanced Clinical Veterinary Nursing from The University of Central Lancashire, UK, specializing in surgical nursing and anesthesia. She moved with her husband to Houston in 2014 and spent a year working for our (SLVS) Emergency & Critical Care department. During this time, she graduated from Nottingham University, UK, having completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Rehabilitation. She has since transferred to the SLVS surgical/ neurology department. In her free time she enjoys hiking, mountain biking and exercising her Hungarian Vizsla Reilly.
Miranda graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2014 with her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science. Her dream has always been to become a veterinarian and she is still working hard to obtain that goal. Miranda started out as a large animal veterinary technician in 2014 and is now proud to be a part of the SLVS team as of 2016. Her pets include 3 dogs, 3 reptiles, and a small tank of fish. Miranda enjoys almost anything outdoors in her free time, as long as there are no bugs.
