Laurel B. Douglass
DVM, Emergency & Critical Care Section Head
Dr. Laurel Douglass graduated from Houston’s Memorial High School and attended Texas Christian University where she earned a Bachelor Degree of Business Administration. She served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1990 and commanded a 250-member brigade Headquarters Company in Germany. Dr. Douglass was a sales representative for Pfizer before being admitted to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University where she earned her DVM degree in 1999. She has served as an emergency veterinarian in Indianapolis from 2001 to 2005 and Houston at Veterinary Emergency Referral Group from 2005 until joining Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists in December 2007.

Jennifer Hennessey
DVM, Emergency & Critical Care
Dr. Jennifer Hennessey graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She received her undergraduate biology degree from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2000. Dr. Hennessey has worked in Houston as an emergency clinician since graduation. She was an emergency/critical care nurse in Plano for 7 years throughout her school career. She worked in the Small Animal ICU at Texas A&M as a nurse from 2000-2004. During vet school, she also was a research assistant and co-author on emergency/critical care projects. Dr. Hennessey is also a proud mother of 2 wonderful children and shares her passion for veterinary medicine with her veterinarian husband! Dr Hennessey joined the staff at Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists in 2010.

Susan BakerEmergency and Critical Care Manager and Receptionist
As manager of the Emergency & Critical Care Section, Susan is responsible for overseeing Emergency's daily operations. Her extensive career in veterinary medicine began in 1981 and has included time in general practice, feline speciality, emergency medicine, working with exotics, wildlife rehab as well as dog training. She has recently retired from 23 years of breeding and exhibiting her favorite cat breed, Abyssinians, many who are still in breeding programs around the world. She still maintains her dedication to the breed by volunteering her time as an active board member of National Abyssinian Rescue.

Stacie Alves
Emergency & Critical Care Support Staff
Stacie began working in veterinary medicine in 1998 in a family practice. Working with animals has always been her passion. Four years ago she entered the emergency and critical care field. She loves the challenge and the cutting edge medicine required for this job.

Anne M. Amy
Emergency & Critical Care, Veterinary Nurse and Lab Coordinator
Anne M. Amy graduated from Houston’s Regan High School. Anne is a licensed Notary Public, an NNA Certified Signing Agent and an Ordained Minister. Anne was an Emergency & Critical Care Nurse at Houston Veterinary Services, Animal Emergency Clinic – Loop 610 before joining our team in December 2007. She has been actively involved in animal rescue and rehabilitation for over 14years and has worked with H.O.P.E., Friends of BARC and the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care. Anne also does private animal rescue and rehabilitationwhen the need arises.

Thomas Dietzel
Emergency & Critical Care Support Staff
Tom Dietzel began his career in veterinary medicine at 17 years of age in Illinois as a kennel assistant. He attended St. Petersburg, Florida Veterinary Technician Program. In 2006, Tom moved to Houston and completed his education, becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician. He has been an SLVS ECC team member for over a year.

Melissa Hall
Emergency & Critical Care Support Staff
"Missy" has more than 8 years experience in the veterinary field as both receptionist and technician, some of this in the Emergency and Critical Care arena. She move to our area with her husband, two children, two cats and dog in 2007 from Pensicola, Florida. She became an SLVS team member in February 2008 as receptionist for our ECC Section.

Fraulein Hidalgo
Emergency & Critical Care Support Staff
Originally from Manila, Philippines, Fraulein began her career in veterinary medicine over 10 years ago and developed a passion for small animals. In 2003, she graduated with honors from the University of the Philippines with her degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine then spent 5 years in private practice as a small animal practitioner. With the goal of expanding her knowledge & experience in advanced patient care, she came to the United States and joined SLVS as a veterinary technician in both Emergency & Critical Care and Surgery Sections in March 2009. She currently works full time with the Emergency Section's nursing team and truly enjoys providing excellent care to our patients. Fraulein looks forward to learning more advanced techniques and procedures to stabilize critical patients.

Tiffany Riggins
Emergency & Critical Care Support Staff
Tiffany's passion for the well being of animals began while growing up in San Antonio. She began a career in veterinary medicine at Westchase Animal Clinic, Houston, in 2003. She works as a senior technician at Beechnut Animal Hospital and as emergency technician at SLVS. She plans to continue her education toward Registered Veterinary Technician while enjoying her own pet dogs, cats and snakes.

Jennifer Smith
Emergency & Critical Care Support Staff
While is college studying to be a teacher, Jennifer's pet needed emergency care. She realized, after 18 hours observing that emergency staff, that her calling was for veterinary medicine. She began her career on the staff at a small animal practice in Memphis, TN for 2 1/2 years and continued in Houston for 3 more years. She now works with Friendship Animal Hospital in Richmond during the day and the SLVS ECC team part time at night. She is pursuing a degree as a Registered Veterinary Technician with a specialty in rehabilitation and pain management.
