Laurel B. Douglass
DVM, Emergency and Critical Care Section Head
Dr. Laurel Douglass graduated from Houston’s Memorial High School and attended Texas Christian University where she earned a Bachelor Degree of Business Administration. She served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1990 and commanded a 250-member brigade Headquarters Company in Germany. Dr. Douglass was a sales representative for Pfizer before being admitted to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University where she earned her DVM degree in 1999. She has served as an emergency veterinarian in Indianapolis from 2001 to 2005 and Houston at Veterinary Emergency Referral Group from 2005 until joining Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists in December 2007.

David Peterson, DVM
Emergency Critical Care Veterinarian
Dr. Peterson attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science in 2001. While in veterinary school at TAMU he worked in the Trace Elements Research Lab, the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Toxicology Dept at the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 2006. Dr. Peterson was an intern at Veterinary Emergency Referral Group Incorporated and a staff emergency veterinarian at Houston Veterinary Services, Animal Emergency Clinic - Loop 610 before joining our Emergency Critical Care Team.

David Batagower
Emergency & Critical Care Manager
David Batagower is a 1999 graduate of Bellaire High School and should finish a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology this year. He has been employed by several veterinary clinics and hospitals, expanding his knowledge and awareness of various medical procedures, training methods and management styles. His interests are intensive care patient management, stabilization of severe emergency cases, client relations and staff training. Mr. Batagower held positions at All Cats Veterinary Clinic, Meyerland Animal Clinic, Texas A&M University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, ADVISYS (a biotechnical firm in The Woodlands), Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists Internal Medicine Emergency and Critical Care section and Animal Emergency Clinic Loop 610.

Anne M. Amy
Emergency Critical Care Section, Veterinary Nurse and Lab Coordinator
Anne M. Amy graduated from Houston’s Regan High School. Anne is a licensed Notary Public, an NNA Certified Signing Agent and an Ordained Minister. Anne was an Emergency & Critical Care Nurse at Houston Veterinary Services, Animal Emergency Clinic – Loop 610 before joining our team in December 2007. She has been actively involved in animal rescue and rehabilitation for over 14years and has worked with H.O.P.E., Friends of BARC and the Bureau of AnimalRegulation and Care. Anne also does private animal rescue and rehabilitationwhen the need arises.

Kim Grasty, Emergency Section
Certified Veterinary Technician and Inventory Coordinator
Kim is a 1998 graduate of the Western School of Health and Business Careers, Pittsburgh, PA, where she earned a Certificate as a Veterinary Technician. She first applied these skills at Holman Animal Clinic in Annapolis, MD from 1998 to 2002. A move to Houston lead to a position with the Gulf Coast Animal Eye Clinic from 2002-2004. She gained valuable emergency experience at the Veterinary Emergency Referral Group, Inc, Houston from 2004-2007.
