Surgery Staff

Loretta Bubenik-Angapen
DVM, MS, DACVS, Surgical Section Head

Dr. Loretta-Angapen grew up in Panama City, Florida and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in 1993 and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida in 1997. Dr. Bubenik-Angapen accepted an internship in Medicine and Surgery and then entered the residency program in surgery at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.

She earned a Masters Degree in Veterinary Surgery at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 2001 and became boarded in the American College of Veterinary Surgery in 2002. She was a tenured Professor of Surgery at Louisiana State University College of Veterinary Medicine from 2002 to 2007 before joining the SLVS staff. Dr. Bubenik-Angapen is skilled at all aspects of small animal surgery but has particular interest in pain management, rehabilitation, neurosurgery, minimally invasive surgery, joint arthroplasty and wound management.

David Batagower
Surgery Manager

David Batagower is a 1999 graduate of Bellaire High School and should finish a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology this year. He has been employed by several veterinary clinics and hospitals, expanding his knowledge and awareness of various medical procedures, training methods and management styles. His interests are intensive care patient management, stabilization of severe emergency cases, client relations and staff training. Mr. Batagower held positions at All Cats Veterinary Clinic, Meyerland Animal Clinic, Texas A&M University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, ADVISYS (a biotechnical firm in The Woodlands), Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists Internal Medicine Emergency and Critical Care section and Animal Emergency Clinic Loop 610.

Tina Boone
Surgery Support Staff

Tina Boone served in the U.S. Army in the early 1990s, having been stationed in Germany from 1992-1995. She continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 2004 and began her career in veterinary medicine in San Antonio, then Killeen, and finally to Houston where she has assisted in general practice and emergency facilities prior to joining the Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists in Emergency Critical Care and Surgical Sections.

Robyn Watts
Surgery Support Staff

Robyn Watts is a graduate of the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Denver, CO.  She received her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology in December of 1998.  She is a nationally certified veterinary technician and also holds state certifications in MD, NV, and PA.  She has had a long career in the veterinary speciality field.  She held the head surgical technician position for 8 years at Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists in Maryland.  She then continued her career at the University of Pennsylvania's Matthew J. Ryan Small Animal Hospital where she specialized in small animal anesthesia.  She has also done volunteer work with Pets on Wheels and VetPets Therapy Associations with her dog Fin. She has recently relocated to Houston to join our surgical team.
